Call to Order, Review of Agenda: Julia Ritter called the meeting to order at 8:25 am. Julia welcomed the membership and cheered the passage of Measure B. School Nurses Report: Nurse Becky Gayman addressed the membership about the policies and practices in place for handling the H1N1 threat at school. She reminded the group that H1N1 is a type of flu that has been presenting in mild to moderate symptoms, and has been affecting our population since the spring of this year. She described the symptoms to look for which includes sore throat, nausea, diarrhea, fever. She said the school is advising parents to keep children at home until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine. She also addressed questions about how classroom teachers are being asked to teach children about proper hand washing, and personal hygiene. Leslie addressed the question of how the school would handle a wider-spread H1N1 epidemic, including moving the children into smaller groups, and reorganizing the lunch schedule if necessary. She reported that so far, attendance due to flu had been average for this time of year. Becky announced that she would be offering a more detailed presentation about the facts of H1N1, to be held on the morning of December 2 in the staff room. Principals Report: Leslie Beatson gave a cheer for Measure B and thanked the members for their support. She announced the recent hires of the art and technology teachers and described how they would work with teachers to integrate art and technology into the curriculum. Treasurers Report: Alice Marks shared financial information from the PTA profit and loss and balance sheets. Approval Items: Motion was made and seconded to approve the Audit Report from 1/1/09 6/30/09Laura Olcott explained the audit process and confirmed that our books are in good order. Motion carried. Motion was made and seconded to approve the Minutes from the 10/15/09 general membership meeting. Motion carried. Discussion Items: PTA Well- Kids Initiative: Karen Bond explained the PTA well-kids kits that had been distributed to classrooms last week, and that contain hand sanitizer, baby wipes for the kids use and Clorox antibacterial wipes to be used by the teachers and germ-buster posters. The idea is to encourage teachers to educate their students about personal hygiene and minimize the spread of germs at school. Membership Drive: Jamie Bueman reported on the results of our membership drive: We have 573 members so far (47% of NC families) and we have collected $6580.00 in membership dues. Those figures represent a 9% increase in members and 7% increase in dues, respectively. Jamie said the winners of the PTA membership raffle had been contacted and would be announced in morning announcements. She thanked Susan Anderson and Joanna Zesiger for their work on this years membership drive. Fall Fundraiser: Carolyn Caindec reported on the Innisbrook wrapping paper fundraiser, which concluded in October. The sale earned a net profit of $6605.20, half of which will be given to the Hall PTA for the 5th grade outdoor education program. The PTA is considering an online Greenraising sale in November and a spirit wear sale before the holidays as well. Additional Business: Julia Ritter announced that there would be a PTA coffee and Spirit Wear sale on Friday, December 4 in the Kindergarten area during morning drop off.. Boxtops for Education will also be collected at that time. Everyone is encouraged to stop by. There will not be a PTA general meeting in December.
