District Breakfast

Summary:

The District Breakfast is held for the District teachers and staff, usually on the first teacher workday of the school year. The food is served buffet-style and the District-wide meeting takes place while the guests eat. The breakfast is coordinated with the District staff, and is co-hosted by the Hall and Neil Cummins PTAs.

Calendar of Responsibilities:

June
Contact the Hall PTA President (Rebecca Sarokin for 2005-06) at the end of the school year to determine the date (confirm with Superintendent), the location (either school gym), the number of people expected, the people who will be involved from both PTAs, and the division of tasks.

Traditionally, the division of tasks has been as follows:

  • Hall PTA sets up for the event (buffet tables, podium and microphone, and chairs) and provides the food (bagels and cream cheese, coffee cake, and fruit).
  • NC PTA usually takes care of the drinks and funds the event
  • Either group can bring tablecloths, flowers, toasters and extension cords

August

  • Day before the event - Drop off drinks and other promised items at Hall kitchen:
    • Coffee - One large pot for regular and one for decaf (55 cups each). Set them up the day before the event to be plugged in in the morning.
    • Tea and hot chocolate - Provide tea bags and hot chocolate pouches. Barbara Kelly has a large pot for hot water. Just ask her to bring it in with an extension cord.
    • Juice - 96 oz each of cranapple and orange.
    • Water - Four large bottles each of sparkling and still water.
    • Lemon - Bring a sharp knife and a plate too.
    • Sugar - Bring sugar and artificial sweetener and a serving dish.
    • Cream - A quart each of half-and-half and 2% milk.
    • Cups - For both hot and cold drinks.
    • Toaster? Flowers? Other, depending on arrangements made with Hall PTA
  • Day of the event - The food and decorations are usually set up between 7 and 8:00am on the day of the breakfast. The staff begins to arrive around 7:45am, and the meeting begins around 8:30am. Replenish food and drinks as necessary until the meeting starts and return around 10am to clean up.

Helpful Tools & Tips:

This is a fun and easy event to plan.

  • Number of Volunteers Needed and Job Descriptions - This event is easily planned with 2-4 volunteers, half from the Hall PTA and half from the NC PTA.
  • Supplies Needed - Neil Cummins PTA coffee machines. They are stored in the pantry of the kitchen in the Multi-Use Room at Neil Cummins.
  • Budget -
